Cambly – Get Paid as a Native English Speaker to Converse with others with Flexible hours and while being Remote

Since my VIPKid Post, on getting paid to teach english to Chinese children did really well, I wanted to share another company that I tried out which I’d also recommend.

 

Cambly is a platform for a native English speaker,  who with or without teaching credentials, get paid to converse in English.  The fact that you don’t need teaching credentials is a great way for anyone to join. Cambly offers two options, credentialed to teach children, which pays $12/hr or $10.20/hr to converse with non-native speakers.  It’s easier than many other platforms to apply, get approved and get paid.  The students are mostly from Brazil, Turkey or Saudi Arabia.  The students are typically looking to:

prepare for an exam (IELTS)

coach them for an interview

Business English

Pronunciation

Grammar or

Technical English

 

The tutor application process is simple, you simply submit an one minute introductory video and upload any credentials.    I got approved within a couple of hours and got connected to students later in the day!  Funds are deposited into your paypal account on Mondays.

 

I was online for two hours and was booked back to back.  Some people wanted me to listen to them read through a passage, another to prepare them for an exam and some simply  wanted to converse.  It was delightful to meet different people around the world and learn about their lives.  One told me, that he had been with Cambly for over 3 years and since not many people in his town speak English, Cambly is a fantastic way for him to improve his English.  He hopes to move to a bigger city,  improve the quality of his life and get a higher paying job.

 

The flexibility is fantastic, you can have regulars or simply sign up for priority hours.  This is where you log in and commit to an hour ONLINE and people request to speak with you.  Each call is about 25 mins.  You simply need an internet connection, your video turned on and use Google Chrome. No mobile or Ipads.  Cambly will run a technical test before EACH session, so confirm the quality of your connection, which makes for a good conversation.  I highly recommend this if you have remote want to monetize a few hours a day or week.
